I am starting this photo blog so my friends, family, and my photography customers can see what I have been up to lately.

My first entry is a hawk I captured in mid flight during a walk through Powder Mills Park on November 18th.  I noticed it perched in a tree next to a meadow near the Daffodil Trail.  I tried to get closer to get a better shot but it took off before I could get very close.  I managed to get a focus lock when it took flight and got a relative good frame although it was a quite a distance for the top end of my 70-200mm lens so I cropped it.  This was shot at ISO 100, F4, 1/250Sec.:

This next frame of a Pileated Woodpecker, was taken shortly after.  Again, it was a bit of stretch so it is cropped and it seemed to prefer to stay on the opposite side of the tree from me.  This was the first time I have seen one in the wild myself.  Perhaps someday when I don’t have to worry about money anymore I can get a longer birding lens like this one to do it justice. ;)   Anyway, this was shot at ISO 100, F4, 1/500Sec.:
